If you love to play games on your Windows 10 PC, you’ll soon be able to livestream with Beam through the Windows 10 Game Bar (Windows key + G) thanks to the Windows 10 Creators Update. There’s no extra software required, enabling you to jump right into the action and connect with your viewers almost instantly. The update starts to roll out on April 11.

Future streamers, let’s get started! Here are a few streamer setup tips to get you on your way:

  1. First, you’ll need a Beam account. If you haven’t already created one, head over to Beam.pro or simply open the Beam viewing app on Xbox One.
  1. Now you know just how simple it is to start broadcasting, but there’s more to know about the world of streaming; pushing the “Start Broadcast” button is just the beginning. To build your follower base, you’ll want to create connecting, emotional, bonding experiences with viewers, made super easy through Beam’s near sub-second latency, to truly engage and add real value for your audience.
  1. Help your viewers feel involved as active participants in both your stream and the broader Beam family. This can be easily done through a basic interactivity setup on your stream, which you can learn more about in this Beam Theme Week post.
  1. Build your personal brand! Try to imagine what kind of presence you want for your streamer space. Consistency is important here. But most important—stream for the right reasons. What are “the right reasons?” You have to stream for the emotions. You stream because you love it. You stream because it’s fun. You do it because through your stream, you become friends with incredible people all over the world. The passion has to be there. If you set out with only the goal of turning streaming into your job, you’re going to have a tough time.

Feel like you’re ready to dip your toe into the world of Beam streaming? Welcome! On behalf of the entire Beam community, we’re incredibly glad to have you! You don’t have to start out with a webcam, an expensive microphone, or crazy soundboard. For now, take a deep breath, go live, and start chatting. Chances are, your first few viewers will be friends of yours, or people you’ve met in other streams.

They’re there to support you, so don’t be nervous! You’re just cutting your teeth. Even if you don’t see anyone in the viewer list, there could be people watching while logged out, or lurking. Develop your ability to monologue about the game, about your life, about anything and everything, even if your audience seems nonexistent. Make sure to keep a close eye on the chat – because of Beam’s sub-second latency, when someone says hello, you can interact with them in near real-time! It’s this type engagement that makes Beam unique and fosters a great community.

You also need to consider how you want to visually identify your Beam channel. Do you want your stream to be full of hype and lasers and emote spam? Do you want to run a chill, laid-back stream where people come to relax? There are endless ways to direct your broadcast’s vibe. Don’t mimic what seems to be popular in the streaming universe at any given point in time. Be sure your brand reflects you, your values, your passions, and your community.

At the end of the day, have fun! Beam is about connecting streamers from all over the world. Find your place among them.

Don’t forget – today’s theme for Beam Theme Week is Thursday of the Dead. If you want to join in on the festivities as a streamer, simply change the game played field to one of the theme week titles so other viewers can find you. You can find all the participating streamers here.
