Today we got our first look at the next dramatic entry in the Call of Duty series with Call of Duty: WWII, coming this November to Xbox One and now available for pre-order. During the livestream event hosted by Activision, some specific details were revealed, including the game’s setting, story, multiplayer modes, and more.
With a return to its World War II roots, Call of Duty: WWII will look to redefine what it means to experience a historic shooter. Players enlist in a gritty, intense campaign through the harrowing battlegrounds of war, facing overwhelming odds and hostile terrain across Europe, in a gripping experience that honors the history of World War II.
Taking place in the European theater in 1944 and 1945, Call of Duty: WWII features the epic scale, cinematic moments and intensity you’ve come to expect from the series, all set against the backdrop of the largest global conflict in history. Players will follow the gripping story of Ronald “Red” Daniels, a young United States Army private, as he and his squad, the legendary US 1st Infantry Division, trek through the harrowing European theater of war. The game will bring to life some of the most iconic moments of World War II, including the D-Day Invasion of Normandy and the Battle of the Bulge, with incredible visuals and awe-inspiring sound that puts players in the middle of the action.
Of course, multiplayer modes also look to continue the fast-paced iconic gameplay that we’ve come to know from the Call of Duty brand. There are a number of new features as well, including a robust social space for players called Headquarters and allowing for players to join different Divisions. This is in addition to the new War Mode, in which Allied and Axis players clash in team-driven gameplay as they fight for strategic objectives during iconic World War II battles.
Call of Duty: WWII will launch for Xbox One on November 3, 2017. What’s more, if you pre-order now you’ll get access to the Private Beta scheduled for later this year. We’ll have more details to share in the coming months, so stay tuned to Xbox Wire.
