Play The Division for Free with Xbox Live Gold This Weekend

In the nearly two years since players were introduced to the lawless, virus-stricken New York City of Tom Clancy’s The Division, the game has consistently posed new challenges, introduced new modes, and delivered new loot to the agents bold enough to roam its streets. Now, with the launch of its biggest free update yet coming December 5, The Division is hosting a free weekend exclusively for Xbox Live Gold members and offering deep discounts on the full game.

Starting Wednesday, December 6 at 11:01 p.m. PST through Sunday, December 10 at 10:59 p.m. PST, you can play Tom Clancy’s The Division and all three expansions for free and see for yourself why The Division is better than it’s ever been.

Set just a few weeks after a deadly pandemic plunges New York City into the chaos of quarantine and evacuation, The Division is a striking vision of the collapse of a city. You play as an elite agent called upon to infiltrate the devastated boroughs and help bring vital services back online, but to do so you’ll need to confront the hostile factions that have seized control. Playing solo or in co-op with up to three other players, you must fight your way through the streets, buildings, and tunnels of the city. As you level up and grow stronger, you will outfit your agent with increasingly sophisticated gear and face even deadlier enemies as you strive to restore order and discover the origin of the deadly virus.

But the campaign is only the start. Those who dare to seek out valuable weapons and gear can brave the PVP area known as the Dark Zone, where they’ll face not only the threat of deadly enemies but also run the risk of being attacked by rogue agents (i.e. other players). And from December 5 at 3 a.m. PST through December 10 at 11 p.m. PST (owners of The Division should note the extra time here), all three expansions will be playable for free, opening a diverse range of new areas and new modes that test your skills and reward success richly.

In the Survival expansion, the winter weather and the virus become real threats as you crash-land into the city with nothing but a pistol and a hazmat suit. Each playthrough is different as you scavenge weapons and gear to take on enemies, seek out warmer clothes so you don’t freeze to death, and use medicine to keep your infection under control until you can fight your way to an evac point.

In the Underground expansion, you venture into the subterranean depths of the city to explore randomly generated urban dungeons, confront menacing foes, and seek out unique rewards. And in the Last Stand expansion, an 8v8 adversarial mode pits two teams against each other in a battle to control key terminals across a large map area, testing your team coordination and combat skills in a whole new way.

With update 1.8 arriving on December 5, a whole new area of the city will be opened up for exploration. The West Side Pier is an industrial port in the northwest corner of the map dominated by a massive aircraft carrier, and it will play host to two new game modes. Resistance will pit Division agents against an unprecedented alliance of enemy factions, challenging players to fight off waves of powerful foes and formidable bosses. In Skirmish, two teams of four will fight to subdue each other in a trio of new arenas. New rules for going rogue in the Dark Zone, new exotic weapons, and the spread of sinister Hunter enemies will ensure that returning players have their hands full.

The three expansions will be free for players who own the full game from December 5-10. The free weekend kicks off on December 6 and runs through December 10. Any progress you make in The Division during this time will carry over if you purchase the full game later. The game and the expansions will be discounted up to 70% off on Microsoft Store from December 6 at 4 p.m. PST through December 12 at 2 a.m. PST.

The world of The Division awaits you, Agent. See you in New York City!
