Internationally, financial services institutions are looking to the cloud to help provide a sustainable compliance model so they can focus on improving customer experience and innovating new services. Microsoft understands the need for these institutions to rely on a cloud provider that meets a wide array of auditable compliance requirements resulting from government and industry mandates. That’s why Microsoft is excited to announce* that Microsoft 365, along with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft Cloud App Security, is the first public cloud service to support the FISC Version 9 guidelines. The FISC (Center for Financial Industry Information Systems) is a not-for-profit organization established by the Japanese Ministry of Finance to promote and create guidelines for security in banking computer systems. Its more than 700 supporting members include major financial institutions, insurance and credit companies, securities firms, and computer manufacturers and telecommunications enterprises. Institutions that want to validate their approach to system security, reliability, and auditing and align with established best practices in Japan will seek evidence of FISC compliance.

To show our continued commitment to financial services customers in Japan, Microsoft engaged outside assessors to validate that Microsoft 365 supports the latest FISC Version 9 guidelines, which include updated security standards for the use of cloud services by financial institutions. To show compliance, Microsoft provides the necessary security reference documentation (whitepapers and checklists) to help financial services institutions in Japan respond quickly when asked to show they are aligned to FISC Version 9 guidelines.

This announcement helps confirm Microsoft’s dedication and leadership compared to other cloud service providers in supporting international regulatory and industry compliance standards. You can learn more about Microsoft and FISC Version 9 support by visiting the Microsoft Japan FISC landing page* or the Japan FISC Guideline documentation on Microsoft Service Trust Portal (customers only).
