Collaborate on diagrams more naturally with an improved touch and pen experience in Visio

This post has been republished via RSS; it originally appeared at: Visio Blog articles.

Visio diagrams can help form the basis for implementing complex processes in your organization. Because of their complexity, these processes often need reviews from multiple stakeholders before being finalized. In an increasingly touch-driven computing world, the Visio canvas provides a superior, natural inking experience to create, edit, and review your diagrams.

The inking experience in Visio today is more intuitive and seamless than ever. Inking is available with Visio Online Plan 2, Visio Standard 2016 and 2019, and Visio Professional 2016 and 2019. If you are already a customer, the inking features shown in this post are available on Build 16.0.10711.20012 and newer.

Let’s look at how teams can leverage Visio inking to review a new process.

You’ve been tasked with creating a flowchart for your organization’s ticket reservation management process.

  • Once the process diagram is created in Visio, you can share it with your team.

  • Your team begins reviewing it. Different members of your team annotate the diagram with their comments and suggestions.

After multiple rounds of discussion, a final process is decided. You then:

  • Erase the suggestions that are no longer relevant.

  • Select and convert the rest of the comments to shapes to make them part of a diagram so you don’t lose anything.

This review process doesn’t even require team members to be in the same physical location: remote members can easily access and annotate the diagram, too.

You can access Visio’s inking features under the Draw tab. This tab is visible by default on a laptop but not on a PC. On a PC you can turn it on by going to File > Options > Customize ribbon > Turn on Draw Tab.
