Yammer powers organizational IQ through new knowledge experiences

The trend of organizations moving to the cloud and adopting technologies like AI is accelerating. More people are entering and exiting the workforce than ever before. With rapid change from automation and a global skills shortage, empowering people to harness knowledge, upskill and learn faster is the new workplace competitive advantage and a key investment area for Microsoft. Multinational organizations like Cerner and UNICEF are using Yammer to capture and share institutional knowledge through communities, and today we’re excited to share some new experiences that help drive this knowledge transformation.

Knowledge communities

Yammer communities serve as spaces for people to discover and share knowledge through interactions with other members— such as looking for expertise, searching for specific content, or crowdsource for solutions. It all starts with the simple act of asking a question or posting information.

Question and answer

We released a new feature set in July called question and answer to help structure crowdsourced knowledge in communities. Today, we’re excited to share several advancements and new experiences based on feedback from our customers.

Questions and polls get an upgrade. We’ve created a cleaner aesthetic for questions and polls, making it easier to scan community feeds and know when someone is looking for input.

New styling makes it easy to identify questions and polls

Admins can now “announce” and “pin” questions or polls when they are looking for feedback from everyone in the community.

Questions and polls provide the opportunity to crowdsource and showcase knowledge.

Use filters to see questions that need help and mark best answers. Easily see all the questions in your community or just the ones that haven’t been answered yet using the new filtering options. Mark helpful or closure-providing responses as best answers—highlighting and making them easier to identify in the feed.

Yammer live events help experts share knowledge. Set up Yammer live events to invite experts to share their knowledge. Use question and answer to source questions leading up to and during the event. Use the question filters to follow up on questions during or after the event and mark best answers.

Use Yammer question and answer on your SharePoint sites. Communities often use Yammer for large-scale conversations and SharePoint for curated content. Bring the utility of question and answer to your intranet using the updated Yammer conversations web part for SharePoint.
