My Summary of Ignite Session "How to select the right Microsoft Teams device across different devices?"

Microsoft Teams devices and the certification program (lead by Principal PM Lead Albert Kooiman) want to ensure that participants on the other side of the call also have an excellent meeting experience. So it`s not enough that the owner of a headset enjoys high quality audio. Behavior of certified devices should predictable, support is joined by hardware vendor and Microsoft and now portfolio is richer with new video solutions. So all benefits of Skype for Business certification still exist plus new Microsoft Teams capabilities around notification, voice skills and invocation.

Another significant benefits and values are:

  • Easy: Start meetings in seconds
  • Inclusive: Everyone gets a seat at the table
  • Scalable: Configurations for any space
  • Ready: Deploy and manage at scale

Microsoft Teams Partners like Jabra, Poly, Sennheiser and Yealink have introduced new Microsoft Teams Buttons at Ignite. You can open Microsoft Teams, hear voice messages, see missed calls, join a meeting in progress or access Cortana Voice Skills. We see same new capabilities not only in speaker phones but also in desktop phones, headsets and in-ear buds. Different form factors exist for different use cases and communication scenarios. Important difference for Phones: full Microsoft Teams client is embedded.

This knowledge should be democratized and shared with public on this website (recommendation: browse US website):

Website can be sorted and complexity reduced by several filters like category, brand, type of space, wearing style, connectivity and features.  Please check out https://office.com/teamsdevices

Albert Kooiman also delivers deeper insights about Microsoft`s internal researches around Room archetypes and their specifications: Phone Booth, Focus Room, Collaboration Huddle Room and Collaboration Meeting Room. It`s crucial to choose the right speaker phone and camera for the right type of room. All preferred OEM Partners were asked by Microsoft to deliver a bundle which fits perfectly to a defined room type.
Let me share an example of a specification for microphones where they are certified for 2.3 meters radius.

A loudspeaker is mounted to a wall, at the edge of a room or near the camera, so that it projects to listeners at a range of up to 4.5 meters.

A camera is mounted at the edge of the room near a display and is located within a range between 1 and 5 meters of meeting participants.

Last but not least Albert shared an important requirement: Cable management only uses one single cable.

Session finished with a special discount offer for Ignite participants for Microsoft Teams Devices.
