1. 350K Members

The community continues to grow at an extremely fast pace. Last December was our 250K milestone, and we’re now past 350K members and continuing to grow!

2. Microsoft Ignite

The week of Microsoft Ignite brought in 1.08M unique visitors, 1.88M page views, 616 new conversation posts, and 130 new blog articles to the Microsoft Tech Community. Additionally, our team was onsite at Microsoft Ignite in the Tech Community booth, and we were able to meet a number of our MVPs and top contributors.

3. Microsoft Ignite | The Tour

The Microsoft Tech Community is the digital experience for Microsoft Ignite The Tour, hosting the videos, decks, localized decks, links to github and Microsoft Learn for all cities.

4. Language Translation

We launched language translation this year, which now supports seven languages: German, French, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese Simplified, Portuguese (Brazilian), and Korean.

5. AMAs / Live Events

We hosted many ‘Ask Microsoft Anything’ (AMAs) in the Tech Community, as well as Live Events in Microsoft Teams, to directly engage users with Microsoft Product Teams. Some highlights include our first Excel AMA in the Tech Community in October, a busy Skype for Business Online to Teams Upgrade AMA in August, and a Live Events AMA in May.

6. Blog Migration

We continued to migrate a number of TechNet and MSDN blogs to the Microsoft Tech Community this year. Some highlights include the Exchange blog, the Premier Field Engineering blog, and the Azure Database Support blog.

7. Humans of IT

A new Humans of IT Community replaced the former Diversity and Tech Community that we have all grown to know and love. Humans of IT Community focuses on empowering technologists, and now features guest bloggers.

8. Public Sector Blog

In June, we launched the Public Sector Blog, a centralized environment posting feature updates, use cases, information articles, thought leadership and best practices as it relates to Microsoft 365 in GCC, GCC High and DoD clouds. Since the launch, the membership and traffic of the Public Sector Community has doubled in size.

9. New Communities

In addition to Public Sector and Humans of IT, we launched a number of new blogs, conversation spaces and communities, notably a number of spaces/blogs in the Azure community and Project Cortex.

10. Microsoft Learn

We’ve added Microsoft Learn as a resource on the top navigation bar of the Microsoft Tech Community. We’ll be continuing to integrate further with Microsoft Learn in next year.

11. Survey

We launched the Value Analytics survey on Tech Community to learn more about our community and customer satisfaction tied to the Tech Community website. We received great response, with nearly 12,000 community members filling out the survey, and we gained valuable insight into the needs of members of the Tech Community. Most members indicated they found what they were looking for in the Tech Community, which is encouraging, and the majority of responses indicated “Looking for information to help me use a product or service” as the reason for visiting Tech Community. We’ll use this information to continue to improve on Tech Community and make it the best resource possible.

12. Yammer

Yammer had a big year in the Tech Community. Their Call for Authors blog post garnered a number of fantastic guest contributions. Other campaigns include Community Manager Appreciation Day and promoting a live event in September (which was hosted on Teams), with the webinar recording in the Yammer conversation space. Michael Holste, formerly the lead community manager for Tech Community, joined the Yammer team, and they most notably launched the new Yammer, refreshing the look, feel and functionality of the Yammer product.

13. Editor Updates

We’ve improved the text editor this year, allowing copy and paste of images and text, editing table properties, inserting mobile emojis, code syntax highlighting and more.

14. Community Events

We’ve continued to offer a place for user groups and Microsoft teams to share community events, continuing to improve the platform as usage increased in 2019.

15. MVPs

MVPs continued to be an important part of the Tech Community, helping out answering questions, participating in AMAs and keeping the Tech Community a positive and helpful environment. The Tech Community has also continued to be a place where new MVPs are found through their helpful contributions, with frequent contributors such as Christopher Hoard, Adam Deltinger and Chris Webb joining the MVP program.

16. Microsoft Teams

Microsoft Teams remains a popular space in the Tech Community and with 110K members it is the second largest community behind Office. There were two Teams blogs in the top 10 most-viewed blog posts of 2019 and we launched several new blog series, like Teams essentials for IT and Teams Rooms Updates. Most recently, Teams for Linux was announced and the blog post already has over 100K views.

17. GDPR Compliance

The Microsoft Tech Community was certified GDPR Compliant in time for the new legislation taking force.

18. Microsoft Build

The MyBuild site was hosted on the Microsoft Tech Community for Microsoft Build. Microsoft Build was also integrated into our Events navigation bar.

19. UI Updates

We made a number of improvements to the UI this year: sorting conversations by recent replies & post dates, improving RSS feeds, and more.
