We are thrilled to announce a new podcast - The Climate Fix - hosted by Microsoft Green Cloud Advocacy Lead, Asim Hussain just in time for Earth Day!

Its goal is to shine a spotlight on academics, non-profits, startups, corporations, and anyone working on a solution to the climate emergency in our world today. It helps connect individuals and organizations to talent and investment resources, as well as inspire + give people hope that there are climate solutions to climate problems, as long as we work together and combine our tech superpowers to develop these solutions.

Catch new episodes of the podcast every Wednesday - each episode runs for 30 minutes and is perfect to listen to during your morning workout or while working from home. The podcast is available on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, Stitcher or directly from the website, TheClimateFix.com.

Who should tune in to The Climate Fix?

Everyone! However, there are some groups who we especially hope to get onboard:

  • Entities with funding/capital to invest in a climate solution, be it from state, philanthropic or venture caps
  • Anyone looking to switch or pursue careers in the sustainable tech sector and looking for organizations to join
  • Anyone looking for inspiration and guidance for how to roll out a climate solution at scale
  • Anyone looking for hope that there is a solution to the climate emergency

Backstory: As Told By Asim

The idea for the podcast came after chatting with Duncan Davidson and Simona Cotin from Microsoft for Startups. We talked about how Microsoft could support green sustainable startups, and it made me realize (to my horror) that I couldn't list a single sustainable startup success story off the top of my head!

After some research, I discovered there were plenty of examples of sustainable green startup success stories, but they were often miscategorized. Or another way to think about it is: by the time you are a huge success, you are more than just one thing. You are a lot of things to a lot of people.

Two great examples of sustainable successes are Tesla and Impossible Foods. We need to move away from the burning of fossil fuels, so there is no future where everything is not electrified. Electric cars are an incredibly important step in that direction. Impossible Foods produces meat substitutes and is often linked to veganism; however, the production of meat is the leading cause of deforestation of the Amazon rainforest.

Climate communicators will tell you that we are not convinced by information, but by stories. This is something we understand well in the developer relations space. I'm a storyteller.  I tell stories about technology, people, and the cloud. I wanted to tell the story of the people actively working on solutions to the climate emergency. Through shining a light on their work, I might be able to help direct financial resources and perhaps even help people seeking a career change into something more fulfilling.

I believe people are much more motivated by hope than by fear. Instead of giving people reasons to run away from something, I want to give reasons we should run towardsThat's why on April 22, the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day, I'm officially launching The Climate Fix.

Can't wait till then? Good thing our first episode's already up - Head over to our website to listen to the first episode where I speak to Paul Gambil CEO of Nori the carbon removal marketplace.

Stay inspired, Humans of IT!
