Meet a recent Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors graduate: Ganesh Tiwari

This post has been republished via RSS; it originally appeared at: New blog articles in Microsoft Tech Community.

This series highlights Microsoft Learn Student Ambassadors who achieved the Gold milestone and graduated from university.  Each blog features a different student and highlights their accomplishments, their experience with the Student Ambassadors program, and what they’re up to now.

Today we’d like to introduce Ganesh Tiwari who is from India and graduated from RD National College upon completing his Master’s in Computer Science specializing in Cloud Computing.

Responses have been edited for clarity and length.

When you first joined the Student Ambassador community in 2019, did you have any specific goals you wanted to reach, like attain a skill or work on a particular quality? What were they, and did being a Student Ambassador help you achieve them?

I did not know what a community was then. I was never involved in one, and it was very astonishing for me to see how students do such great things. There was nothing related to a community in my college, neither were there any clubs for coding/CS related stuff. I had no clue as to what was expected or what kinds of things are supposed to happen. I just jumped in the first Student Ambassador call and got to know so many people. It was through this program that I came across people from abroad talking about what we learn through this program and got to know their viewpoints on it and how it benefitted them.

The first person I talked to when getting in this program answered my questions as to what was expected from me while in this program, and he guided me towards hosting my first event.  It took me almost 2 months to plan and do it, but it was fun and opened so many possibilities. People started to look up to me. I have learnt a lot of management skills and planning things when I was in this program.

What was one of the most accomplishments that you're proudest of?

The Student Ambassador community was such a completely different kind of experience for me altogether that everything that I did was a memorable event for me. I am very proud of the way I handled all of it and how I built my base around the opportunity that I got.

The part of my journey which has most impacted my success was the MSInpir Workshops that several Student Ambassadors and I ran where we used to have Ambassadors host weekly sessions on their favorite topics.  It was an amazing learning experience for me as it turned out to be my most well-known work as a Student Ambassador. I enjoyed a lot during that process as well.

Apart from that, other Student Ambassadors and I build open-source software together, we teach and mentor students, we host events, we help each other out when someone is feeling down and make lives easier for everyone.  One open-source community that I helped build is Tesseract Coding, which has been trending on GitHub for quite a few times now and has 660 stars. I love this part of my life because it's very satisfying. I feel more like a developer now.

What do you have planned now that you’ve graduated?  What’s next for you after the university?

I've got a job as an UI Engineer at Megdap Innovations Lab.  Most of my work revolves around building WinUI, Dotnet, and React applications. Other than that, along the way, I find out things to do. Of course, my aim will still be to help others in the field of tech and constantly do events, but a lot is still uncharted territory.

I want to go down the road of becoming a Developer Relations guy if there comes an opportunity for it. I like doing tech and teaching others more about tech, so it would be a dream job.

If you could redo your time with the Student Ambassadors community, is there anything you would have done differently?

I had done almost everything I had wanted to. I made friends of people from across the globe. I have come to know different cultures, men/women, differences, and learnt so much that I do not think of anything that could have gone better.

I did miss some opportunities getting certified when I was a Student Ambassador. I have been on a mission to get certified in the recent months and still have not given my exam, but I do want to do it as soon as possible. Wish me luck!

If you were to describe the Student Ambassadors community to a student who is considering joining, what would you say to convince them to join?

Firstly, this community is filled with great people. Getting in is a great position itself. You can do anything you want and dream about doing it after you get in this community.

This is a community with people from across cultures. You will find people who are passionate about different things here; anything that you think is interesting, you will find people who love to do it as well. The program managers and support staff are great in that they investigate your matters and always try to be as much as helpful as they can.

And direct benefits ranging from Azure credits to the awesome swags are things which I'm sure no one would like to miss.

And let's say that this student joins and becomes a Student Ambassador. What advice would you give them?

Try to gain as much as knowledge as possible. I know things are hard with classes and colleges all being online nowadays, but being in this program is not a thing that you would like to miss on.

Don't do or say anything that might hurt someone. Remember, as boundaries of connections are closing in with online stuff, it also becomes very difficult for someone to know what a person is going through. Be empathetic towards everyone.

Do you have a motto in life, a guiding principle that drives you?

My only purpose when I wake up in the morning is trying to be as good as possible to other beings around me and try to make the environment or community that we live in a better place. I have a dream of someday creating an educational institution where I live to improve the education system. I want to make technology accessible to everyone and to see people tapping into it to make the most of it.

What is one random fact few people know about you?

I listen to a lot of rap music--a lot of Eminem songs. You can find me listening to rap songs the whole day on my bedroom’s balcony. I like to draw, and in my earlier years at college I was a drama team leader at my college.

Good luck to you, Ganesh, in all your future endeavors!
