Summary of impact: Between 20:24 UTC 08 Dec 2021 and 04:24 UTC 08 Dec 2021, customers using Azure Monitor may have experienced failures when attempting to see metrics. About 20% of the queries retrieving data for Azure App Services and Azure Functions may have failed. Retries may be successful.
Preliminary Root Cause: We determined that a recent upgrade to the compute tenant caused a backend component turn unhealthy leading to the query failures.
Mitigation: We throttled the query load, which brought the backend component to a healthy state to prevent further query failures and as result mitigated the issue.
We understand that customers rely on Application Insights as a critical service and apologize for any impact this incident caused.-Jack Cantwell
