This year, our focus at Community Central is back on the community groups who do amazing work gathering IT professionals, developers, and tech enthusiasts together. Whether it is driving membership, curating content to share with their members, sourcing sponsors, locating speakers and hosting community group meetings for their members, we are pleased to feature the following three groups with a strong history of bringing communities together around the world.

Global Azure Bootcamp

The Azure Bootcamp program was originally created by Microsoft as a way of introducing developers to the Azure platform and the possibilities of Cloud computing. In 2012 a team of Azure MVPs hit on the idea of multiple locations around the world hosting Azure bootcamps on the same day. The first Global Azure Bootcamp was held in April 2013 and the event has been growing in size every year since then.

Microsoft Tech Community members and MVPs Diana Carolina Torres Viasús, Fredrik Nilsson and Magnus Mårtensson will be representing Global Azure Bootcamp. Learn more about Global Azure Bootcamp at https://global.azurebootcamp.net/.

Microsoft Teams Community Events

The Microsoft Teams Users Group Community is targeted at IT Pros and Developers interested in Microsoft Unified Communications. Our goal is to provide the community with valuable information as it relates to all forms of Microsoft Unified Communications. Their meetings include both technical and Business information relating to Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams and educate by bringing subject matter experts on the Microsoft Unified Communications platform, Microsoft Teams, to incubate and grow general knowledge to each community.

At the Microsoft Teams Users Group Community Capsule you will be able to sit down with local organizers from around the world to discuss technical topics, finding a local group to attend, best practices for technical communities and users groups, and even discuss process to help you start a local group if one doesn’t exist.  We will have a listing of user groups from around the world that are Microsoft Teams and UC focused to help you find a local group. We invite any and all user groups and community event leaders to hang out at the community capsule for part of the week.

Microsoft Tech Community members Dustin Miller and Kevin Peters will be representing the Microsoft Teams Users Group Community. MVP Brian Ricks will be representing a variety of different groups related to Microsoft Teams. Learn more about the Microsoft Teams Users Group Community in https://teamsug.com/.

SharePoint Saturdays

SPS Events is an all-volunteer organization that provides the tools and knowledge needed for groups and event leaders to organize and host SharePoint Saturday Events. SharePoint Saturday Events (SPS Events) are FREE one-day events held in different cities around the world, featuring sessions from influential and respected SharePoint professionals. At the local event level, SPS Events:

  • Provide local SharePoint professionals and users with excellent training and networking opportunities
  • Encourage increased membership for the local user group
  • Help develop, grow, and encourage new speakers

Drop by the SPS Events booth to network with others who are interested in promoting the Office 365 and SharePoint communities. Our team will be there to answer any questions folks may have about what SharePoint Saturdays are, where are upcoming events, what it takes to start a new event, and to just promote the user community overall. We will provide a place where attendees can communicate and collaborate on starting up events in new areas throughout the world.

Microsoft Tech Community members MVP Andy Huneycutt, Susan Lennon and Gary Lennon will be representing SPS Events. You can learn more about SPS Events at http://www.spsevents.org/.

Each of these groups will be at Community Central in the Microsoft Ignite Hub staffing a Community Capsule booth. Expect some special appearances and swag giveaways, but it is also an opportunity for attendees to learn where their events are happening around the world and how they can get involved.

Within Community Central, you will also get a chance to find out what other community events are planned via the Microsoft Tech Community. Meet the Community Managers at the Microsoft Tech Community Booth to add your Community Event to the Tech Community and plot it on our world map! We’re excited to give Community Events the spotlight they deserve so Microsoft Ignite attendees can continue their journey with community long after they have departed Orlando, Florida.
