Azure Unblogged – Windows Container for IT Pros

This post has been republished via RSS; it originally appeared at: ITOps Talk Blog articles.

Today I am want to share a new video, where I had the chance to speak with Vinicius Apolinario about why you as an IT Pro should care about Windows containers and how to get started.

We are going through the basics of containers in general and especially containers on Windows. We will have a look at the basic Docker commands, and we also show how you can manage containers on Windows Server using Windows Admin Center.

What are Containers

Containers are a technology for packaging and running Windows and Linux applications across diverse environments on-premises and in the cloud. They provide a lightweight, isolated environment that makes apps easier to develop, deploy, and manage. Because they are so lightweight, they start and stop quickly, making them ideal for apps that need to adapt to changing demand rapidly. And their lightweight nature of containers also makes them a useful tool for increasing the density and utilization of your infrastructure.

Containers for IT Pros

Containers help admins create an infrastructure that's easier to update and maintain, and that more fully utilizes hardware resources. IT Pros can use containers to provide standardized environments for their development, QA, and production teams on-premises as well as in the cloud with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS). By using containers, sysadmins abstract away differences in operating system installations and the underlying infrastructure.

If you are managing Windows Containers, I recommend that you have a look at the Container extension of Windows Admin Center, which allows you to manage and troubleshoot containers in Windows and Windows Server.

I hope you enjoyed this episode and let me know in the comments if you have any questions.
