Surface devices are often chosen for use in data-sensitive environments. When a device needs to be serviced or replaced, our customers told us they would like to keep or dispose of their solid-state drive. Surface Drive Retention[1] allows customers to retain the SSD from Surface Laptop 3 or Surface Pro X during a service event and receive a replacement device with a new SSD.
We designed Surface Drive Retention program to meet the following goals:
- Security. Ensure that sensitive or proprietary data complies with the highest security standards
- Convenience. Dispose of your drive on your own terms
- Easy to replace. Engineered to allow the easy and safe removal of the SSD by a skilled technician or partner
[1]. Drive (SSD) Retention is only available on Microsoft Surface Laptop 3 or Surface Pro X devices in which the SSD is marketed as removable per the Technical Specifications. Drive (SSD) Retention is included in Microsoft Complete for Business Plus and is available as an Optional Add-on when purchasing Microsoft Extended Hardware Service and Microsoft Complete for Business. SSD is only removable by skilled technicians following Microsoft’s instructions. Microsoft is not liable for any damages or injuries sustained. Further, any resulting damage will not be covered under the Hardware warranty or Extended Service Plan. See the pricelist for most current pricing. There will be no fee when you return a damaged device without the original SSD..
