Az Update Azure Stack HCI and the future, PowerShell 7 SSH Remoting, AI to save lives

This post has been republished via RSS; it originally appeared at: ITOps Talk Blog articles.

With all the changes in Azure, it is sometimes hard to keep track, that's why I thought I would give you a quick update on a couple of exciting things I learned this week. In this update, I want to share a couple of things around Azure like a nee episode of Azure Unblogged where I talked with Carmen Crincoli (Senior Program Manager) about the Azure Stack HCI solution program, how you can use PowerShell remoting over SSH in PowerShell 7, how a team in Microsoft used AI to save lives, and much more.

Azure Stack HCI and the future

This week I had the change to speak to Carmen Crincoli (Senior Program Manager) on Azure Unblogged about the Azure Stack HCI solution program, why it was created, the value it provides to customers, and some of the work we're doing to engage with customers to improve future versions of the product.

You can watch the full episode on Microsoft Channel 9.

PowerShell remoting over SSH using PowerShell 7

PowerShell Core 6 and PowerShell 7 are working cross-platform, with that you also want to have an option to use remoting to different systems like Windows Server, Linux, and macOS. PowerShell 6 and PowerShell 7 both allow you to set up PowerShell Remoting over SSH. New here is a new cmdlet, which the configuration much more comfortable.

Applying AI to save lives: How A Team at Microsoft made Drones Self Aware

This week Anthony Bartolo (Senior Cloud Advocate) shared a fantastic story about one of his most memorable proof of concepts he participated in.

Leveraging Custom Vision Cognitive Service, Azure IoT Hub, and other Azure services, the developers at InDro Robotics can now equip their drones to:

  • Recognize emergency situations and notify control stations immediately, before assigning to a rescue squad
  • Identify objects in large bodies of water, such as life vests, boats, etc. as well as determine the severity of the findings
  • Establish communication between boats, rescue squads, and the control stations. The infrastructure supports permanent storage and per-device authentication

Deploying Replica Domain Controller using Azure Resource Manager templates (Blog Series)

Shannon Kuehn (Senior Cloud Advocate) is starting a blog series with some real-world uses cases for Azure Resource Manager (ARM) templates. ARM Templates make cloud deployments declarative, idempotent, and add increased agility related to the speed of provisioning resources in Azure. Declarative deployments scale significantly better, versus leaning on manual configurations or running a series of scripts. Microsoft maintains an Azure Quickstarts Repo on GitHub that provides a lot of starter ARM Template code to familiarize yourself with how these configuration files are structured.

She will be unpacking the replica domain controller build in this series over the next handful of weeks. If you want to know more about Shannon's blog series, check out her blog on ITOpsTalk.com.

Conclusion

I wish you a good weekend, and I hope this short blog post provided you with some news from this week. I know there is much more than just the things I listed here. I recommend that you follow the Azure announcements blog. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment.
