New certification: Microsoft Teams Support Engineer Associate
We’re eager to share the good news with you that we’re launching a customer service and support (CSS) certification for a new job role: support engineer. This professional is a frontline technical resource who works with Microsoft customers and partners by phone, via email, or on the web. The Microsoft 365 Certified: Teams Support Engineer Associate certification is a new way for these engineers who support Microsoft Teams to validate their skills. To earn this certification, candidates need to take Exam MS-740: Troubleshooting Microsoft Teams (beta). Because the exam is still in beta, we invite you to participate in our beta exam process.

In the coming days, we’ll share more on the new Microsoft Teams Support Engineer certification. This certification is a great fit for organizations, such as cloud solution provider (CSP) partners, that are looking for a way to differentiate support engineering skills as they accelerate digital transformation. A globally recognized Microsoft Certification validates employee skills and abilities and can help maintain an organization’s competitive edge. Seize this opportunity and be among the first CSP partners to have your support engineers earn this new Microsoft Teams certification and the associated badge. Encourage them to celebrate the accomplishment with their network. In fact, it often takes less than a minute for a new certification holder to update their LinkedIn profile and share their achievements, highlight their skills, and help boost recognition of their organization’s bench of skilled technical professionals. Here’s how:
- When a candidate earns a certification, they simply follow the instructions in their congratulations email. They find their badge on their Certification Dashboard, and follow the instructions there to share it. (They’ll be transferred to the Credly website.)

- To add specific skills to a LinkedIn profile, candidates can go to their profile page and update the Skills and endorsements section. Tip: We recommend that they choose skills listed in the skills outline guide for the specific certification.
Who is the best fit for this certification?
Support engineers who are focused on Microsoft Teams environments and who troubleshoot deployments, tune performance, collect and analyze telemetry and log data, and manage Teams environments are great candidates for the Microsoft Teams Support Engineer Associate certification.
Candidates should have significant exposure to unified communications, and they need substantial hands-on experience with Microsoft Teams. In addition, they need in-depth knowledge of Microsoft Azure fundamentals, networking, telephony, PowerShell, data storage technologies, and APIs. Plus, they should have solid experience with app security, authentication and authorization, security and compliance information, debugging, performance tuning, and monitoring.
