When you first joined in 2019, did you have specific goals you wanted to reach, such as a particular skill or quality? What were they? Did you achieve them? How has the program impacted you in general?

I wanted to learn about Microsoft Azure and the different services. I wanted to increase my depth and breadth of knowledge in different Azure services such as Blob Storage, Computer Vision, SQL Server, and much more. I was able to achieve them by completing the cloud skills tutorials available on the Azure website and by hosting Azure-related events as a Student Ambassador. The program has taught me a lot about not only the foundations of cloud and how it works, but also specific technical services, and it helped me improve my soft skills of public speaking, teaching, and being able to explain complex technical concepts.

What was the one accomplishment that you're the proudest of and why?

I am the proudest of having held a Microsoft-sponsored event for my Independent Organization at the University of Virginia called “Cracking the Interview”. The purpose of this organization was to help individuals in business and tech perform well in behavioral and technical interviews as well as give them exposure to current technologies such as cloud-related technical services like Microsoft Azure. During this virtual event, I told the 40+ students about my position as a Student Ambassador and lectured them on how the cloud works and the cloud services that Microsoft Azure provides. The students were then assessed on the material through Kahoot and other games, and Microsoft swag was given out to the winners of the event. It was a big accomplishment since I was able to get so many peers excited about Microsoft Azure and how the cloud will revolutionize the IT infrastructure forever.

If you could redo your time as a Student Ambassador, is there anything you would have done differently?

I would have tried to hold more virtual events during the end of my first year when the Covid pandemic began to have a greater influence on students at the University of Virginia.

If you were to describe the community to a student who is interested in joining, what would you say about it to convince him or her to join?

It’s a great community where everyone is eager to learn, supportive, and helpful. The community connects you with so many other Student Ambassadors across the globe and can give you inspiration and motivation from others' work while realizing how great your reach can be with these latest technologies. The community will help you grow and develop and will help in any way possible to ensure you have a smooth experience.

What advice would you give to new Student Ambassadors?

Start setting goals from day one that you would like to achieve and then work towards them. First, try to educate yourself on Microsoft Azure and its services, and whenever you feel comfortable educating your peers about these technologies, then do not hesitate to start organizing Azure events and writing blog posts to educate your peers about different Microsoft technologies. Most importantly, learn as much as possible and have fun doing it.

Do you have a motto in life, a guiding principle that drives you?

Life only comes once, so make sure you leave your mark.

What is one random fact few people know about you?

I love health, nutrition, and fitness. Taking care of our bodies is just as important as any other aspect of our life. Healthy body, healthy mind, healthy life.

Good luck to you in the future, Burhan!
