Alright, and we are back for another edition of midday cafe.

00:00:05.660 --> 00:00:21.670
Michael Gannotti
I'm very excited. We have two other attendees today, so myself. I'm Michael gannotti. For those who've never watched before. I'll tell you a little bit more about the sisters in a moment, and I'm joined today by Kendra Joanna. Introduce yourself.

00:00:22.100 --> 00:00:29.730
Kendra Burgess
Hi everybody, my name is Kendra Burgess. I'm a healthcare and life sciences technology specialist. I focus on Power BI and synapse.

00:00:30.560 --> 00:00:33.220
Michael Gannotti
And Stephanie join to quickly introduce yourself.

00:00:34.330 --> 00:00:40.930
Stephanie Lynn Hotchkin
Hi my name is Stephanie. I'm a director of digital transformation for a company called Ilink Systems. Working closely with Microsoft.

00:00:41.570 --> 00:01:10.780
Michael Gannotti
Awesome, so we're kicking off today. We've got a some great stuff we're going to be covering a little bit after the initial portion. I'll be talking a bit about a hybrid work with remote work scenarios, of which I am doing now from my wife and her two sisters place in Florida. So my normal broadcast is my Home Office in North Carolina, but I am here outside in sunny Florida. I'm going to kind of cover some of the equipment that we use.

00:01:11.310 --> 00:01:36.610
Michael Gannotti
When we're on the remote and how that works in this scenario and I'll be able to show you, I even have my phone joined to the meeting so I can use the camera from here to show all of you how I do this. But before I get started, oh, and one other thing, we're also going to show it just lit up in my PowerPoint. The new recording modes, the three that I have talked about previously. We're going to get a quick glimpse at those.

00:01:37.380 --> 00:01:38.210
Michael Gannotti
Having said that.

00:01:39.360 --> 00:01:48.630
Michael Gannotti
Kendra, you have some exciting stuff you're gonna be covering with Stephanie, so I'm gonna drop off a video and audio for right now so I'm not a distraction.

00:01:40.370 --> 00:01:40.710
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.

00:01:47.390 --> 00:01:47.820
Kendra Burgess
OK.

00:01:48.970 --> 00:01:49.470
Kendra Burgess
OK.

00:01:49.300 --> 00:01:49.980
Michael Gannotti
Take it away.

00:01:50.410 --> 00:02:19.450
Kendra Burgess
Great well hi everybody, I'm you know it's been awhile since I've been on a mid day cafe. Today I wanted to let you know that we haven't envisioning session. A workshop that we're going to be running with our partner. I link up it. I'm going to announce it on the HLS blog, so if if you don't know where to go, aka Ms. HLS blog for internal resources and I think we'll have a link to the HLS blog here on the podcast for you.

00:02:20.880 --> 00:02:34.610
Kendra Burgess
The envisioning session is going to be the week of December 6th, so more information will be on the HLS blog and our partner I link is going to host that with us, so it's Stephanie. Would you like to talk about I link?

00:02:37.120 --> 00:02:39.760
Stephanie Lynn Hotchkin
Sure thing, I'm just going to share a quick.

00:02:41.030 --> 00:02:54.850
Stephanie Lynn Hotchkin
Slide here. Alright so I worked for a company called Ialink. We are the Microsoft partner of the year for Power BI for 2021 and we are a global company. We work in data and AI.

00:02:55.920 --> 00:03:05.730
Stephanie Lynn Hotchkin
Specializing very heavily in Power BI and we work across all different retail consumer goods. Obviously healthcare and life sciences.

00:03:06.610 --> 00:03:08.730
Stephanie Lynn Hotchkin
Uhm, through all of the data.

00:03:08.780 --> 00:03:21.950
Stephanie Lynn Hotchkin
Yeah, IoT business, analytics, AI and MLI capabilities and we have locations throughout the world. I'm here in California. We have teams in India in the Middle East.

00:03:23.100 --> 00:03:26.850
Stephanie Lynn Hotchkin
Mexico and so on. So lovely too.

00:03:27.840 --> 00:03:28.760
Stephanie Lynn Hotchkin
With all of you today.

00:03:29.700 --> 00:03:55.730
Kendra Burgess
Thanks Stephanie, I appreciate that for our listeners. I link is a partner that we use. Of course not only in healthcare and life sciences but across our other verticals as well. I link is highly regarded as a partner that you know we trust that knows Power BI very well, power platform. Our Azure solutions. So it's a great partnership for us to be working with them on this power BI envisioning session the week.

00:03:55.780 --> 00:04:01.140
Kendra Burgess
Of December 6th again, more information. You'll be able to find that on the HLS blog.

00:04:01.420 --> 00:04:05.770
Kendra Burgess
Uhm, I think by Wednesday at the latest. That's what we're planning for.

00:04:06.940 --> 00:04:07.440
Kendra Burgess
Great.

00:04:08.150 --> 00:04:11.390
Kendra Burgess
Thank you, thank you Stephanie Michael. It's back to you.

00:04:14.600 --> 00:04:23.730
Michael Gannotti
Alright so I am back here we go and so we've got a couple of things. Like I mentioned, I'd like to show today so.

00:04:24.060 --> 00:04:33.990
Michael Gannotti
Uhm, the first of which is really addressing what we talk about when we discuss hybrid work, and that is that mobile remote worker.

00:04:34.810 --> 00:05:05.930
Michael Gannotti
And really, if you think about the last two years and the challenges around the pandemic being cut off from not only customers but also loved ones and etc, you know people are starting to get back to wanting to be able to connect and to to be able to reach out and to be with other folks. And one of the beauties that I love working for Microsoft is they've really embraced this idea of hybrid work. And so while I live in North Carolina, I work from my Home Office.

00:05:05.980 --> 00:05:36.270
Michael Gannotti
Predominantly and I have everything I need there to do a full fledged. You know I have multiple screens, multiple computers and I can do all kinds of great stuff to be able to take that on the on the road and work effectively. It's not a stretch and so here I am in Florida right now. My wife and her two sisters a couple of years ago went in on a place. It's actually I'm in a mobile home 55 plus mobile Home Park.

00:05:36.750 --> 00:05:57.020
Michael Gannotti
And what happened was her father, whose wife had passed away. The sisters had decided look, we'd like to be able to keep him company rotate and go down. And so it was her turn to come on down and spend some time. They bought this. So it's actually just about a I don't know 300 feet from his place and.

00:05:58.210 --> 00:06:02.870
Michael Gannotti
They had bought this place together so they could visit. I don't know if you can hear the car right then.

00:06:03.980 --> 00:06:33.010
Michael Gannotti
There we go, there beeping and so, uh, you know what they've done is by buying this place. Being able to come and visit, and so for me, coming down here allows me to spend time still with her, allows me to connect with him and suddenly everybody sucked the drive through none of that all morning. But that's alright. That's part of the beauty of hybrid work and some of these things. We're going to talk about. So what I'd like to show you is equipment that I use to be able to take my stuff and work.

00:06:33.120 --> 00:06:51.430
Michael Gannotti
Pretty much from anywhere, irrespective of the circumstances, so I'm going to pull up my phone here and I am going to add audio and video. I will then mute my video and lower the. I'll mute my speakers over here as well so we don't mess up, but let's go ahead.

00:06:52.490 --> 00:06:53.810
Michael Gannotti
Select add video.

00:06:57.650 --> 00:07:01.900
Michael Gannotti
Oh, there we go and I wanna switch that so.

00:07:03.040 --> 00:07:06.150
Michael Gannotti
Let's see, is there a way, I guess.

00:07:06.960 --> 00:07:07.380
Michael Gannotti
No.

00:07:08.240 --> 00:07:08.820
Michael Gannotti
Uhm?

00:07:11.170 --> 00:07:15.500
Michael Gannotti
So I'm not sharing my screen. That's what I wanna do. So let's see share.

00:07:16.430 --> 00:07:18.590
Michael Gannotti
Share video here we go.

00:07:20.540 --> 00:07:24.910
Michael Gannotti
There we go. That's what I wanted and start presenting.

00:07:27.040 --> 00:07:57.090
Michael Gannotti
So here we go. So this view. So I'm on an iPhone. Here. I'm on a Pete or PC here and you can see there's my my my scenic view, right? Work from anywhere and I'm sitting out here outside all day talking. I've done several presentations, been in several meetings and what enables me to do that. First of all, I have my Windows 11 PC. I've gotten older surface Book three that provides me interactivity I can.

00:07:57.140 --> 00:08:21.570
Michael Gannotti
Touch, obviously we have Microsoft Teams running on that PC. In fact, I'll just minimize this so it's not in the way for the moment, so you know, I've got that here then on the top I have the Microsoft webcam. It's the new latest webcam from Microsoft. It has little features like oh privacy controls, so you see, I dropped off.

00:08:22.460 --> 00:08:48.510
Michael Gannotti
And I'll draw upon. So something that you know, it's nice to have background blur etc. But you know, as you're joining meetings or if you have to step away, being able to just close that off. It's a simple, easy way for people not to have to fret about things and be able to still have a high quality camera with this has HDR video to provide a great experience for audio.

00:08:49.450 --> 00:08:51.050
Michael Gannotti
What I have is the USB.

00:08:51.100 --> 00:09:15.470
Michael Gannotti
With a C device from Microsoft. Again, notice the teams logo over here. We've got a mute button here we've got call. We've got plus or minus for volume, but this provides me both my audio for a microphone as well as my speaker, and it's a great device. It'll it actually when you wanna go the court itself. It's right here.

00:09:16.070 --> 00:09:43.610
Michael Gannotti
It folds up under that lift so it's completely tucked away. They use USB to have the best connection, so I have that connective right here. More about this in a second, and it allows me to have again that unrestricted freedom and be able to talk as noise cancelling tech. So with the exception loudest noises, it really does a good job. In fact, I had a presentation this morning with a corporate vice president.

00:09:44.260 --> 00:09:57.880
Michael Gannotti
Who said they heard nothing and, uh, you know there was just background people walking and talking but no real in, you know, inordinately loud noises there. However, sometimes that's not enough.

00:09:59.100 --> 00:10:00.980
Michael Gannotti
So what we have here?

00:10:03.010 --> 00:10:33.460
Michael Gannotti
Is this so from logictech? I have the logic tech headphone set again with noise cancelling tech. It allows me to hear unobstructed and then by bringing the microphone with closer proximity to my mouth, right with noise cancelling, it really does a great job in canceling all that out and making that a much better experience so you know when you look at these kind of things, I will tell you this device here. The speaker USB C.

00:10:33.980 --> 00:11:03.710
Michael Gannotti
Speaker phone it is phenomenal. Low cost, low cost for the camera webcam together I spent I wanna say around roughly just over $100 for the two of them together which gives me a complete mobile office experience. I do have this for when I need to. Typically I'm using this indoors if there's just too much going on outside and if my wife and daughter are inside.

00:11:04.370 --> 00:11:11.540
Michael Gannotti
Watching TV or doing something in the close proximity again, we're in a little trailer and so.

00:11:12.680 --> 00:11:27.980
Michael Gannotti
That allows me to carry out meetings like that, but makes it smooth. It's a great way to use things and I absolutely love it so I'm gonna stop presenting here and let's see, touch it to to.

00:11:28.700 --> 00:11:36.110
Kendra Burgess
Hey Mike, while you're doing that, just so you know, I haven't heard a single vehicle go by. It's been silent. It's it's really nice, yeah?

00:11:29.950 --> 00:11:30.490
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.

00:11:34.510 --> 00:11:35.640
Michael Gannotti
Oh serious.

00:11:38.450 --> 00:11:39.980
Michael Gannotti
You have you've heard nothing.

00:11:40.160 --> 00:11:42.900
Kendra Burgess
Nothing, nothing but your beautiful voice.

00:11:41.200 --> 00:11:42.240
Michael Gannotti
Wow.

00:11:43.610 --> 00:12:00.580
Michael Gannotti
So I will tell you, while we were sitting here then I had first a car go by. It was loud and they beeped their horn and then it a service truck towing a trailer with equipment on the back came by big diesel one as well.

00:11:51.110 --> 00:11:51.200
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.

00:11:53.550 --> 00:11:53.970
Kendra Burgess
No.

00:12:01.690 --> 00:12:04.320
Michael Gannotti
And I would say maybe 30 feet from me.

00:12:05.110 --> 00:12:16.310
Kendra Burgess
No, I didn't hear nothing. Nothing. I saw your eyes move like you were concerned but yeah, so you gonna. How are we gonna find out what all those pieces and parts are you gonna put a link to it?

00:12:09.820 --> 00:12:10.570
Michael Gannotti
Is this?

00:12:15.640 --> 00:12:30.680
Michael Gannotti
Yeah, so I'm going to put links to them. You can get them online at the Microsoft Store online today. You can also get them at Best Buy and some other locations, but the Microsoft Store it's a easy way to just order or on best box me Amazon so.

00:12:30.400 --> 00:12:30.790
Kendra Burgess
Huh?

00:12:31.070 --> 00:12:43.970
Michael Gannotti
Uhm, you know. Both locations have those. But again, great devices. They don't cost an arm and a leg, which is why I have them. Because guess what, Microsoft did not supply those to me I bought.

00:12:45.050 --> 00:13:08.570
Michael Gannotti
And but they work great, and they enabled me to take the show on the road. So that was the first thing, the second is. This as we are in these remote scenarios and we're not able to necessarily show our colleagues how to do things and give presentations in physical rooms. One of the mediums that a lot of people are gravitated towards these days is video.

00:13:09.520 --> 00:13:39.500
Michael Gannotti
The ability to create a video that instructs and shows people how to do things can be very powerful, but it can be intimidating to many folks who don't have necessarily domain expertise in video capture and video editing. So with that in mind, I'm going to share my screen on my PC here. We're going to take a look at the latest advances from PowerPoint, which you might be seeing now. If you look where I show you in just a moment, so I'm going to share.

00:13:40.120 --> 00:13:41.440
Michael Gannotti
Particular screen.

00:13:43.100 --> 00:14:10.890
Michael Gannotti
And I'm gonna minimize that I'm gonna pull up PowerPoint in this blank view. So we're looking here at Microsoft PowerPoint. I don't have anything built yet, but one thing in the past we had this feature here record where I could come in and record a slide, do a screen recording, do some things, run audio video and export and it worked great. When I showed folks how to do that, they were like, oh, this is awesome.

00:14:11.520 --> 00:14:11.920
Michael Gannotti
But

00:14:12.660 --> 00:14:17.560
Michael Gannotti
there were still some things missing. For example, if you had picture your video.

00:14:18.190 --> 00:14:22.930
Michael Gannotti
In picture where it's the slide, so slide and then small talking head.

00:14:23.530 --> 00:14:54.250
Michael Gannotti
Frequently you're doing like I'm doing now. You're looking at stuff and what happens? It looks like you're looking down right? Because you're not looking at the camera. Well up here in the upper right is a new icon that says record and it says record narrations, animations, translate, transitions, ink and laser pointer gestures. But when we click that it's going to bring a new view. Now if I had a lot of slides.

00:14:54.450 --> 00:15:10.820
Michael Gannotti
It would look a little different, but here you can see those varying views here. You can see down below. We have here ink pen and ink controls to annotate and draw, and it says you can add notes or script to help you land your message clearly.

00:15:11.510 --> 00:15:24.780
Michael Gannotti
Uhm, and that is actually as I'm reading that add notes. It's up adjacent to here because if we click on views the first view it has is this one. It's called teleprompter.

00:15:25.690 --> 00:15:46.120
Michael Gannotti
As you add notes, you have scrolling notes that keep that what you're reading adjacent to the camera at the top of the screen, so it minimizes the looking down and helps you focus so it looks like you're looking at your audience as you read and have those scrolling notes. All that being provided there.

00:15:46.940 --> 00:16:17.480
Michael Gannotti
There's also, though two other views. One is called the presenter view that gives you a view if you have notes here very much like PowerPoint live. So when you're presenting and you have your projecting to one screen, but then you have your view to advance in front of you. You remember in PowerPoint live you have the ability to have the slide. Any notes for that slide readily available to you so you can leverage those to help you with your talking points.

00:16:17.540 --> 00:16:46.900
Michael Gannotti
As you move through again, we have pen and ink here so we can go ahead and say, hey, you know I wanna go ahead. Well, not highlight say pen and I'll pick the red and you wanna draw and you can do it with your finger with a stylus on a surface type device. But you have all those controls and the availability to advance your slides just like you do in PowerPoint live as you are recording a video.

00:16:47.810 --> 00:16:48.630
Michael Gannotti
Finally.

00:16:49.610 --> 00:16:53.650
Michael Gannotti
Under views we also have one called slide view.

00:16:54.530 --> 00:17:12.460
Michael Gannotti
And so if I select that, that's going to maximize that slide where you're looking at the content. Again, you can pen and ink. You can advance the slides, go through and have all that available in all of these views. Notice we do have the ability to turn the camera on.

00:17:14.600 --> 00:17:34.400
Michael Gannotti
So there we go. So now I have myself showing up here. It's leveraging the camera on my screen right here instead of the the other webcam so they're not conflicting, so I'm able to show both. But now you can have all those different views to help you create the recording that you'd like.

00:17:35.310 --> 00:18:05.220
Michael Gannotti
And have it all much more natural. Depending on what you find is the best way you use teleprompter if you wanna follow a script but look like you're looking at the audience side by side if you wanna do it more traditional but have the availability of notes to help you with your prompts and then finally the slide view where if you're like me and you like to freeform and just kinda talk to the slide and draw and annotate and have that with maximum real estate.

00:18:05.990 --> 00:18:24.160
Michael Gannotti
For you, but all those are available if you're in preview, check it out. All you have to do is simply in your slide, like they maintain my little drawing there, it's simply click record to go ahead and invoke that. If you don't see that yet, just keep checking back on your updates.

00:18:25.820 --> 00:18:32.060
Kendra Burgess
You know the analytics person in me is gonna comment on this power BI.

00:18:31.150 --> 00:18:32.040
Michael Gannotti
Go right ahead.

00:18:33.350 --> 00:18:59.360
Kendra Burgess
Power BI and PowerPoint integration, and being able to have your presenter mode in the screen. It makes me think of education and data literacy and how to tell a really good data story while being a presenter on the screen. So you get both the data analytics. You get the presenter sharing a story.

00:18:47.630 --> 00:18:48.100
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.

00:19:00.000 --> 00:19:03.640
Kendra Burgess
Altogether I'm gonna play with that. That looks great.

00:19:02.790 --> 00:19:06.930
Michael Gannotti
Yeah, I mean that's and I would love to see an example if you.

00:19:08.510 --> 00:19:34.300
Michael Gannotti
You play with it and the next time we do mid day cafe, I'd love to have you show that 'cause I think it's it that's so powerful, right? And it goes to the heart of what we're talking about it. You can use it for data literacy. You can use it for just thinking about people that need to pull together. This kind of things and you have analysts or pulling that data and whatever it the flow is of work that you're doing.

00:19:14.790 --> 00:19:15.000
Kendra Burgess
Huh?

00:19:29.720 --> 00:19:30.180
Kendra Burgess
Huh?

00:19:34.960 --> 00:19:36.620
Michael Gannotti
We're making video.

00:19:37.690 --> 00:19:59.460
Michael Gannotti
A first class citizen in the Microsoft 365 sphere for the you know presentation and on demand portrayal of information, wherever it may be. It may be data, it could be something else, but being able to do all of that naturally leveraging the tools you already know, and that's I guess the big thing.

00:19:44.530 --> 00:19:45.010
Kendra Burgess
Miller

00:19:59.920 --> 00:20:01.170
Kendra Burgess
And likely own.

00:20:01.830 --> 00:20:08.100
Michael Gannotti
And own guess whenever I showed people in years past the record function, not the new one.

00:20:08.590 --> 00:20:16.140
Michael Gannotti
Uh, they'd be like wait a minute we own that and I just show him how to make sure that was turned on in their PowerPoint. Like Oh my God.

00:20:08.740 --> 00:20:09.100
Kendra Burgess
Huh?

00:20:15.490 --> 00:20:15.620
Kendra Burgess
Yeah.

00:20:16.810 --> 00:20:21.760
Michael Gannotti
Our helpdesk could use this for like how TOS I'm like, yeah.

00:20:19.160 --> 00:20:19.550
Kendra Burgess
OK.

00:20:23.080 --> 00:20:45.400
Kendra Burgess
Yeah, I think too. You know, I talked to customers on the power BI side and I'll say wow, you know you have 30,000 power VI licenses and they'll say no, we had no idea why. Why do you have Tableau? Why do you have click? Why do you have these? These other tools when you're already paying for for power BI? It's part of your E5 package.

00:20:23.470 --> 00:20:24.000
Michael Gannotti
So.

00:20:45.690 --> 00:20:46.070
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.

00:20:45.830 --> 00:21:15.080
Kendra Burgess
Uhm, and I'm sure not everyone will know what that means. But just if you're not sure if you have power BI, ask your account team. You probably do. The other part is I'll, I'll ask the account team myself when I'm, you know, wanting to get ready for a call with a customer. I'll say, hey, this is my customer. Have teams and let's say everybody has teams. Oh because when I'm talking to a customer about power be I I want to share with them all the greatness of it.

00:21:15.460 --> 00:21:15.840
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.

00:21:15.850 --> 00:21:46.350
Kendra Burgess
And you know, if I didn't know that they had teams, I wouldn't tell them that story. Hey, you already have teams you already have power BI. They all work together. These all these tools that we that you own in that we tell you about, they integrate beautifully together. These stories are things you can put together because you have access to all these tools. You may not know it so you know ping Michael. Ping me, call your account team, ask them, do I have teams? Do I have power BI do I have?

00:21:46.400 --> 00:21:47.120
Kendra Burgess
Preview.

00:21:47.430 --> 00:21:47.790
Michael Gannotti
Yeah.

00:21:47.490 --> 00:21:51.840
Kendra Burgess
Uh, you know privileges to these changes in PowerPoint.

00:21:52.930 --> 00:21:54.520
Kendra Burgess
