In the world of modern applications and data-intensive workloads, the demand for scalable and high-performance databases is constantly increasing. To address this need, Azure PostgreSQL team has been continuously enhancing its offerings, and one recent announcement that has generated considerable interest among developers and businesses is the introduction of 32 TB storage and the availability of Intel V5 (Ddsv5 and EdsV5) compute support for Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server. This significant upgrade brings a host of benefits, empowering users to manage larger workloads, improve application performance, and scale effortlessly as their needs evolve.

Enhanced Performance with Intel V5 Edsv5 and DdsV5 Compute Support:

Azure has always been at the forefront of delivering cutting-edge hardware to power its database services. The addition of Intel V5 Ddsv5 and EdsV5 compute support for Azure Database for PostgreSQL Flexible Server in select regions takes performance to new heights offering 50% increase in core to memory ratio compared to the previous generation (V4 SKU). These latest-generation Intel processors deliver improved clock speeds, higher core counts, and advanced memory architecture, resulting in significantly enhanced query processing capabilities.

Edsv5-series SKUs are ideal for memory-intensive enterprise applications, large relational database servers, data warehousing workloads, business intelligence applications, in-memory analytics workloads, and additional business-critical applications, including systems that process financial transactions of various nature that benefit from low latency, high-speed local storage. The new Edsv5-series Flexible server run on the 3rd Generation Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8370C (Ice Lake) processor reaching an all-core turbo clock speed of up to 3.5 GHz and offer high memory-to-vCPU ratios, with increased scalability up to 96 vCPUs and 672 GiB of RAM. In comparison previous generation V4 SKU offered only a maximum of 64 vCpus and 432 Gib memory

New General Purpose SKU, Ddsv5 Intel provides a balance between memory and vCPU performance while also offering improved scalability. This new SKU is ideal for entry-level and mid-range databases that require a well-rounded configuration of memory and CPU. Ddsv5-series virtual machines operate on the 3rd Generation Intel® Xeon® Platinum 8370C (Ice Lake) processor, reaching an all-core turbo clock speed of up to 3.5 GHz. These virtual machines offer up to 96 vCPU and 384 GiB of RAM and come with fast, local SSD storage.
